Scams Awareness Week

Scam Awareness Website

Monday 25 – Friday 29 August is Scams Awareness Week, an annual national campaign backed by government, businesses, educators and communities to help Australians unite in preventing scams.

This year’s theme, “Stop, check, protect” offers simple, actionable guidance to discourage scammers who may impersonate your trusted email contacts or vendors you utilise, asking you to update bank details or make payments to new accounts.

We encourage you to follow the below steps:

  1. STOP – stop and verify before acting on new payment requests.
  1. CHECK – check sender details carefully. Look for subtle changes in email addresses, formatting and language
  1. PROTECT – reject any request to change bank details or make payments to new accounts unless verified using a trusted channel.
